Airport field trips
Turn curiosity into a closer look at aviation.
Plan an outdoor aviation field trip at Greenville Downtown Airport and Runway Park.
Greenville Downtown Airport
Airport field trips combine a guided park walk, plane-watching, aviation conversation and an aircraft familiarization and photo opportunity.
Trips are outdoors and weather-dependent. Advance reservations are required. The supplied 2026 schedule is a dated snapshot of previously booked trips; contact GMU to confirm current availability.
How the airport visit works
- Published scheduling window: Tuesdays and Thursdays, excluding holidays.
- Flexible start times are available between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
- Typical visit length: approximately 60–90 minutes.
- Groups larger than 40 may rotate through smaller activity groups.
- Adult supervision is required; the airport recommends one chaperone per 12 children.
- Trips meet at the picnic hangar on the right side of Runway Park; navigate to Runway Park rather than the airport office.
Published pricing and payment
The airport’s supplied program information lists a $5 donation per child with a 15-child or $75 minimum. Chaperones are free at the requested one-adult-per-12-children ratio.
- Payment may be made in advance or at the tour by cash, check or credit card.
- Checks may be made payable to Greenville Airport Commission or GAC.
- Invoice requests may be sent to kim@greenvilledowntownairport.com.
- Outdoor visits are weather-dependent; rescheduling is subject to availability.
